I need help with my home telephone system DECT?
Question:
Say I had a triple Panasonic phone set, which was a digital DECT cordless.
I assume there would be a base unit which connects to the phone line. Then the three individual handsets, will wirelessly connect to the base to get a dial tone, (or outside line).
If I wanted to add a new phone to the system, does it have to be the same make and model, or can I buy any DECT handset.
Will the new "other branded" DECT handset be able to communicate to the base and pick up a dial tone wirelessly?

Depends on the manufacturer and the model.
I managed it no problem between Philips and Siemens DECT phones, but the new Siemens gigaset doesn't allow you to do it any more. It wouldn't even let me register an older Siemens gigaset phone.
Best to ask in the shop or ask the manufacturer. I would say if it doesn't explicitly say it is possible in the user manual then it isn't possible.
Although DECT is a standard I get the feeling they feel they are losing custom by letting you use older models of the same phone and/or phones from other manufacturers and have started to make it difficult if not impossible to pick n choose.
